Lucky Treat!

I'm pretty sure I've got some Irish roots in me! I love everything about St. Patrick's day. This post is a bit late to share ideas, but you can always hold them off until next year! Better yet, this treat can be used year round! I have plans to make a traditional Irish dinner, play some fun games, oh, and wear green of course!

Here is another one of those ideas I copied from Pinterest. I give credit to these ladies for their creative minds!

The pictures are grainy, thanks to iphone camera!

Ingredients/Materials-
Box of Lucky Charms cereal
Plastic snack-sized party bags
Card stock
Printable labels (from www.eighteen25.blogspot.com)

*I printed out the labels so they were smaller (about the size of a business card).

Here's a little Irish blessing for ya!

May those who love us, love us;
and those who don't love us,
may God turn their hearts;
and if he doesn't turn their hearts,
may he turn their ankles
so we'll know them by their limping.

Happy St. Patrick's Day ya'll!

For Crayon Out Loud!

Valentine's day is a few days away. It's just another one of those holidays where stores try to get us to spend money. Instead of spending a fortune on valentines, I decided to create something from home. Something useful.  Something that doesnt give into the sugar high that most of our children will go through.

Anywho, this week I was searching through my newest addiction Pinterest and found this fun idea. My heart was set on making a home made craft for my students. Heart crayons. Little time and 2 dollars worth of money, batta bing!

The most tedious part was striping the paper off each crayon. A way to avoid fingers hurting would be to soak them in water over night. This will help the paper come off.  It was abosultely necessary.

The majority of the tutorials that I looked at showed pictures of aluminum pans. A crafty friend from church suggested her silicone cut out instead. She claimed it worked like a gem, and it did.

I bought 2 boxes of 64 rose Art Crayons from the local Dollar Tree. I split them up by color and filled the pan accordingly.

I made a tag to go with each crayon that said "For Crayon Out Loud, Happy Valentine's Day" and "You Color My World".

Mercury Glass Pumpkins

I am a lover of pumpkin. Anything and everything pumpkin is my weakness. Pottery Barn came out with their September Edition and I about died. First and foremost their prices are far from a budget that I even come close to having. Secondly, I knew there had to be a way around spending $40 for a pumpkin that's up once a year. So I decided to make a Pottery Barn knockoff.

This is what I fell in love with! Aren't they fantastic?!

I went around town finding the cheapest, yet coolest looking pumpkins I could find. First stop was the dollar store. They had awesome ceramic pumpkins in neutral colors. I almost didn't want to paint them! I was looking for a variety of pumpkins that varied in shapes and sizes. Joann's and Michaels usually have good deals on their foam filled pumpkins. Be sure to take a coupon, they can be pricey.

I relied on Krylon Spray Paint once again, to do the trick. And it worked! Here's what you need.

Materials:
- A variety of pumpkins. I went with about 10 pumpkins all varying in shapes and sizes.

- 1 can of Krylon Metallic

- 1 can of Krylon Brushed Metallic

*I definitely suggest purchasing the spray paint at Walmart. It's the cheapest that I've found. You won't be using an entire can.

Tutorial:
(There are two different ways I went about doing it.) Trial and error right?!

- Spray the pumpkins with the brushed nickel paint first.

- Don't let the the paint dry completely. I suggest, almost immediately moving onto the metallic. Sprits the metallic paint over the pumpkin so that it produces a spotted look.

- Another option would be to spray the metallic, lightly, over a colored pumpkin so that the pumpkins original color seeps through. There isn't a wrong way to do it. Like I said, trial and error.

What do ya think?! What would you do differently? Let me just tell you, the total cost for all the pumpkins plus materials was around $25. You can't even buy 1 pumpkin for that price at Pottery Barn. I'm super excited to show you what I've done with these! Coming up!

Candle Holders

I am a regular candle user. We go through them every few weeks in my home. Not to mention, just about every room has its own candle. Who doesn't love the Bath & Body Works Slatkin & Co filled candles?!

Considering we go through these things every few weeks I began to notice how many jars were tossed in the garbage. So, I figured I'd try and put them to use. Instead of purchasing expensive bathroom containers for Q-tips, cotton balls, and other things I decided to create my own. The nice thing about these candles is they come in different sizes too. Oh, and they include a lid, even better!

Tutorial:
- I took a candle that was no longer being used and cut the excess wax out of the bottom.

*It helps to stick it in the freezer for about 10 minutes to harden the wax.

- I removed the labels so that there is no evidence of it being a candle.

- Lastly, I cleaned it out real good with windex and a sponge.

There you have it... So easy peasy and totally cute!

Old to New

I love transforming things.

Have you ever seen something so ugly its cute?

like these...

Ugly right? Well, to be honest I totally fell in love with these candle holders when I first saw them. These lonely twins were hanging in the window of a thrift store and I about died. My brain started going a million miles an hour (like normal) pondering what I would do with them, and where I would hang them.

They ended up coming home, dusty and gold. ICK! Some of you may or may not know, but I love spray paint. Weird, right? I don't snort it or paint designs on freeways with it, I just use it for crafts!

So today I purchased some black satin Krylon spray paint and went to work on these bad boys.

Tah dah.

They turned out marvelous and I have just the right spot for them in my home.
